Meet the Team
Stephanie Adams, PhD
Dr. Stephanie Adams is an Honorary Fellow in Sport & Brain Health at the University of Edinburgh. She is the Founder & Director of ConcussEd, and strives to make accurate concussion information more accessible and memorable for all stakeholders. Stephanie helped lead the evaluation of the global Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on concussion - a partnership between University of Calgary & University Laval. More recently, she led the development and roll out of the Sport and Exercise for Brain Health MOOC on the FutureLearn platform. She is a member of the Scottish Concussion Advisory Group, which is responsible for the ‘Scottish Sports Concussion Guidance’. Stephanie is a retired rugby and equestrian athlete, and brings experience from several teaching and leadership roles in university, school and sport settings. Final year neuroscience student at the University of Glasgow. Shona has a love for sport and the outdoors playing badminton competitively for Glasgow, an active member of the yoga club and completed her first marathon last year. From her studies Shona has learnt about the impact brain injury can have and importance of promoting brain health. Shona was inspired to get involved with ConcussEd as it was the perfect opportunity to combine her love for sport and health and well-being. Shona will be working to improve concussion prevention, identification and management across Glasgow University Sports Association.
Alumni Ambassadors
Physical Education (PE) teacher and Applied Sport Science graduate. After suffering from concussions personally, Ellie is extremely passionate about spreading concussion awareness to all athletes and areas of society. Ellie would love for all student athletes, young people, coaches, teachers, parents and supporters to have better knowledge and understanding about concussion, and to know where to turn when and if it happens.
Chris is a final year medical student at the University of Edinburgh and is hoping to pursue a career in sports and exercise medicine. He completed his pre-clinical years at the University of St. Andrews receiving a BSc (Hons) in Medical Sciences. Chris is a keen sportsman having been involved in England Youth Invitational Hockey squads and completing two marathons. He is currently conducting research into the role of concussion education in the undergraduate medical curriculum in Scotland. Chris is keen to ascertain how best concussion can be taught at medical school.
Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Glasgow. Since taking part in the ConcussEd course, Jennifer was inspired and eager to get involved in the mission to educate athletes, coaches and staff on the severity, signs and recovery of concussion. Jennifer is a committed football player for the Glasgow Uni Women’s 1st team and wants all of her teammates and opponents to know the signs so that everyone can enjoy the sport safely while looking after their health and wellbeing. Jennifer will be working to improve concussion awareness and best practice.
James is a fifth-year Medical student with a BMedSci (Hons) in Sports Science Medicine. James is actively pursuing a career in Sport and Exercise Medicine and has a particular interest in concussion, having suffered several himself throughout University and noting the functional impact symptoms can have on students. He is currently conducting research into the role of Specialised Concussion Clinics in the management of post-concussion syndrome in the UK. James hopes he can bring his experience in Social Media to help disseminate important information on how to recognise, assess and manage concussions and avoid the potential lasting symptoms.
